Task: Getting news from the Internet
Objectives:
- My students will do research on the ways people watch or listen to the news.
- My students will learn how to read charts and graphs, how to form more detailed questions and how to report on facts and figures.
- My students will have the opportunity to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Activities:
1. Raising questions
When you are asked to write a report on ‘getting news from the Internet’, what will be included in your report?
Sample questions:
l How to get news that we want from the Internet
l Who gets news from the Internet?
l What kinds of news do people get from the Internet most?
l What is the usual percentage of the false information getting from the Internet?
l The differences between getting news from the Internet and from TV, newspapers or radio?
2. Attending a lecture – the ways people watch or listen to the news
1) Listen to a lecture and complete the table in Part A (page 42). Then check the answers in class.
2) Listen to the final speak and complete the notes in Part B (page 42). Then check the answers in class.
3. Skills building – Getting information from charts and graphs
Read the explanations on reading charts and graphs and practice using them by finishing Part C (page 43). Check the answers in class.
4. Skills building – forming more detailed questions
Study the notes on page 44 and then finish the exercise. Work in pairs, practise the conversations.
5. Skills building – reporting on facts and figures
Writing a report about getting news from the Internet.
As there aren’t any lessons at present because of the students’ preparing for the Exams for the required courses. The lesson plans I provide now is just a very brief one with steps telling what to do and what each step is. Before each lesson, the plan should be revised and decisions should be finally decided.
